Everyone at Saints Southwest was delighted to learn that former Devon Academy player Farren has signed a scholarship in Derby County’s academy.

“I absolutely loved my time at Saints Southwest,” Farren said. “All of the coaches were amazing and helped me to progress both as a footballer and as a person.

“The boys were brilliant and I was lucky enough to play with some top players on a regular basis.

“Saints really kicked me on from playing Sunday League football straight into regular football at the high standard. I enjoyed every second of it!”

Farren’s proud dad Stuart added: “Farren spent a couple of seasons with Saints, which he enjoyed immensely – getting to play on Saturdays in the JPL for the first time.

“This complimented playing Sunday League football and helped develop his pathway to play for local academies and then secure his scholarship with category one club Derby County.”

Tom Shwenn, who coached Farren during his time at Saints Southwest, said: “Farren was with us for a couple of seasons and he was a real pleasure to coach.

“He was always an outstanding talent who could produce very special individual moments on a consistent basis, in addition to being a great young man off the pitch.

“I am really not surprised that a category one academy has signed him given the skill and talent he has, paired with the amount of hard work he has put in.

“He knows that the real hard work starts now and that he can go as far in the game as he wants if he keeps working and striving to be the best.

“Everyone at Saints Southwest wish him all the best and we will be supporting him all the way with his future. Well done mate!”

Here’s a look back at some of the silky skills Farren showed us in a Saints shirt…
