Saints Southwest as a registered Community Interest Company (CIC) is undergoing, as many businesses are, very worrying times. Our main objective is to ensure that all Saints Southwest activity remains beyond this international crisis, and we reduce the impact this will have on our workforce’s lives.

Further to the recent outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19) and following Government and Football Association advice, Saints Southwest will suspend all non-school based delivery from today (Tuesday 17th March) for an initial period of two weeks (until Sunday 29th March 2020).

This suspension affects our activity with children and young people outside of a school setting, inclusive of our Community and Football Development programmes. We will review this at least once a week, as a minimum, after the initial two-week suspension period. Sessions & Programmes across Cornwall, Devon & Somerset include;

  • Saints Soccer Tots (2-4 years)

  • Mini Soccer Saints (4-6 years)

  • Saints Soccer Centre (7-11 years)

  • Girls Only Sessions (Wildcats 5-11 years)

  • Inclusion and Learning Disability Sessions

  • Grass-root Clubs Support

  • Football Development Centres (U6-U14)

  • Regional U7-U10 Football Programmes

  • Regional U11-U18 Football Programmes

Where possible, participants will be contacted individually by one of our team and via email (please check Junk/Spam email), who will also strive to check in regularly with them during the period of suspension and provide whatever support that we are able to.

This decision has been made as a precautionary measure based on advice received and to bring us in line with the recommendations put forward by the UK Government and Football Association this week. Importantly, the decision that we have reached reluctantly is not reactive to any known exposure or incident at Saints Southwest sessions.

We regret to announce this news. It is not a decision that we have made lightly as we recognise how important the interaction we have with our participants is, while we also aim to protect the livelihoods of the many staff that serve within the Saints Southwest programme. However, the safety and wellbeing of all of our participants and staff has to remain our utmost priority.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation at this time.

Saturday 9th March 2020

Please accept this statement as confirmation of Saints Southwest’s position with regards to the COVID-19 issue from the Department of Health and Social Care, and Public Health England. Saints Southwest as a Community based organisation accepts its responsibility to take and promote reasonable actions to reduce and minimise any risk to the people who access our provisions.

As you are aware the UK Government has recently published its action plan on containing the possible spread of the coronavirus.

The coronavirus (COVID-19) is a type of virus that can affect humans and animals and can cause illness similar to the common cold or possibly more serious respiratory illness.

Our guidance

We advise clubs and members who have concerns about coronavirus to read and follow the current advice published by the UK Government. This advice is updated regularly and includes the latest information about the virus, preventing spread of infection, the current risk level, advice for and about returning travellers and what to do if you believe you have symptoms associated with the virus.

The Government’s current advice is available online and you can access it by clicking one of the following links.

Individual health advice is available by calling NHS 111. In Scotland phone your GP or NHS 24 on 111 out of hours.

Advice and resources for clubs - preventing the spread of COVID-19

As with any other illness, all those involved in Saints Southwest provisions  are encouraged to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 and avoid catching it by following Public Health England and NHS guidance. Information on how to do this is provided on the NHS website with additional information available on the Public Health England blog.

As an organisation offering Community, Football Development and Education services, we support the Government advice that hand hygiene should be strongly promoted and encouraged, along with equipment and facilities thoroughly cleaned and wiped down following use. Materials including posters from Public Health England’s campaign to help stop the spread of viruses can be downloaded from their resources website. You can download their current print friendly coronavirus poster here.

Below are some more resources from the NHS that may be useful for you to print and display at your club and share with your members.

Schools

As part of our continued work within your schools, please accept this statement as a confirmation relating to Saints Southwest’s position as the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) epidemic.

Saints Southwest will continue to provide the provision(s) within your school as documented in the Service Level Agreement.

As stated Saints Southwest as a Community based organisation accepts its responsibility to take and promote reasonable actions to reduce and minimise any risk to the people who access our provisions.

  • A school member of staff must contact Saints Southwest on 0330 2234 932 or email info@saintssouthwest.co.uk or directors@saintssouthwest.co.uk at the very earliest opportunity.

  • Your school(s) will still be invoiced and charged for its provision as stated in the Service Level Agreement, item 4 under the Schools Responsibility section.

  • Saints Southwest will then conduct an in house risk assessment to determine the repercussions.

  • If you may think that there may be a risk to a Saints Southwest member of staff the school must contact Saints Southwest on 0330 2234 932 or email info@saintssouthwest.co.uk or directors@saintssouthwest.co.uk at the very earliest opportunity.

  • Your school must keep Saints Southwest fully informed as to when the school may reopen or remain closed.

Tuesday 17th March 2020

Further to our most recent public announcement updating the general public on Saints Southwest’s position and cause of action as a result of the Coronavirus Pandemic, this message aims to inform you of the plans we are putting into place with respect to the Regional Football programme.

Contingency Plan

With uncertainty around the length of time our programmes are directed to be closed down, it is difficult to plan any contingency measures. However it is possible for us to;

  • Extend the 2019-20 season by up to 6 weeks (to compensate for any missed weeks between Tuesday 17th May to ???); 6 week period of Wkc 25th May to Wkc 29th June (current off season).

Fixtures Update

As included in our player induction pack at the beginning of the season, we have always anticipated between 25-30 fixtures included as part of the monthly subscriptions (excluding Devon U7s & Somerset U7-U10s who pay per fixture) below represents the number of games each team has played this season to date;

  • Devon U8s = 26

  • Devon U9s = 26

  • Devon U10s = 22 (3x games short at present)

  • Devon U11s = 27

  • Devon U12s = 27

  • Devon U13s = 21 (4x games short at present)

  • Devon U14s = 27

  • Devon U16s = 21 (4x games short at present)

  • Somerset U11s = 24 (1x game short at present)

  • Somerset U12s = 22 (3x games short at present)

  • Somerset U13s = 24 (1x game short at present)

  • Somerset U14s = 25

  • Somerset U15s = 27

In light of the above, we would like to ask all parents/guardians to continue with your monthly subscriptions at present.

Monthly Subscriptions/Fees

While we understand that not only Saints Southwest will be affected by this International Pandemic, we unfortunately, like other businesses, are not protected by our insurance policies because of the Covid-19 virus being a new virus. With uncertainty around the length of time, this pandemic is likely to affect ‘normal’ operations. We have the following key outcomes;

  • Maintain the existence of Saints Southwest beyond the current pandemic, to ensure Saints Southwest is able to return to ‘normal’  for all of our participants, parents and our schools.

  • Reduce the financial effect on our staff, leading to disruptions within their personal lives.

As a Community Interest Company, the sustainability and strength of our business and programmes is reliant upon the subscriptions/fees which parents and guardians pay for their child to be a part of it.

As such we hope that any families not financially affected/who are able to in their personal circumstances consider continuing with the subscription plan you are signed up to.

Alternative Provisions

Saints Southwest will endeavour to provide alternative provisions to help keep players and their families active, this will include the following;

  • Home learning challenges

  • Individual player development plans

  • Live workouts/sessions via social media

  • Online video content posted via social media

  • Personal coaching (1-2-1 sessions)

Furthermore, we welcome any additional suggestions.
